Tibetan Singing Bowls

Tibetan Singing Bowl Meditation and Sound Healing

Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, crystal bowls, and visualizations are used by sound healers as a kind of medicine to provide sound healing, by creating a balance where there is in-balance. Thus by removing inner obstacles, these healing sounds can restore some sense of inner peace and harmony with the persons listening. Another way to describe this sound healing treatment is taking a purifying, “Sound Bath”, see one hour session below.

The singing bowls have been used in ceremonies for thousands of years in Tibet and Nepal. The idea behind the healing sounds and vibrations is that this can help us re-harmonize and connect and align with the sacred around us, and help the listener resonate with their own inherent wholeness. Instead of identifying with a fractured, and out-of-balance sense of self. The sounds can loosen up blockages within someone’s body (which includes the emotional, and spiritual as part of one’s being) and release tensions and distress that has build up in the body. The sound harmonies further create a sense of well-being by stimulating the relaxation reflex in the body, further slowing down the listeners breathing and heart rates. This state of meditation cultivated by the healing sounds can be very relaxing and grounding to listen to, while absorbing these sounds and harmonies.

Our waking state involves the Beta brain waves. Meditation music therapy, or sound healing involves stimulating the brain to move into the deeper brain wave frequency, Alpha and Theta brain waves. These brain wave frequencies are associated with states of deep meditation.

Examples of the conditions and ailments that get relief from sound healing are:

  • Cancer patients undergoing radiation or chemotherapy
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue
  • Sleep issues
  • Depression
  • Lung issues
  • Pain management for many ailments and more.

Buying Singing Bowls

The best bowls to purchase would be hand made, as they will contain the most unique and subtle overtones and effects due to the handcrafting that went into it. However, the machine made or modern bowls can sound just fine as well, see links to bowls further below. The hand made singing bowls will contain multiple harmonic frequencies. The difference between the hand made and machine made bowls is that the hand made bowls are made by hammering, a traditional method, and also they are made with intentions and often prayer. The machine method of creating singing bowls, is with a process called, “sand casting”, where it is finished off with a machine lathing process.
